Exciting side-event on how to transition to 100% Renewables Energy as part of a just transition with focus on new results in abatement of hard-to-abate sectors, ways to increase climate action in high consuming countries with sufficiency policies as well as how to combine transition to renewable with urgently needed energy access, including gender aspects, and how to educate and involve youth.

Welcome, big picture of global transition to 100% renewable energy,

Transition to renewable energy, analysis with general assessment models and presenting new studies from Climate Analytics how to transition “hard-to-abate” sectors to phase out fossil fuels and use renewable energy alternatives. The hard to abate sectors in focus are:
• Steel production in Japan: mapping technology choices (hydrogen, direct reduction, etc) and analysing policy levers, and market dynamics, industrial competitiveness, jobs, and transitional risks – such as overreliance on carbon capture and storage – for primary and secondary steel production.
• Fertiliser production in India: analysing decarbonisation pathways by tracing the whole value chain from energy inputs to policy and finance. Our research compares ammonia produced from LNG or renewable energy and examines impacts on energy security, fiscal resilience, emissions integrity, and pass through to consumers.
