teachers of physics are assisting Earth Friends’ volunteers demonstrating
how to do experiments that connect the curricular physics lessons with
practical aspects of energy production and use. Teachers receive the
10
experiment sheets for analysis and comments. Students receive basic information
concerning energy and environmental issues. Earth Friends volunteers
assists
physics teachers in organizing the experiments. Physics teachers, assisted
by Earth Friends volunteers, evaluate the experiments. Earth Friends
ask
students to evaluate the experiments and to speak about the experiments
and day to day life examples. |
In
the framework of the Sustainable Energy Education and Demonstration
Centre,
Prietenii Pamantului (Earth Friends) ran a series of experiments for
students in the Paul Dimo Technical College, Galati, Romania. The sustainable
energy
experiments were prepared three months before being launched. All materials
and devices necessary to do the experiments were prepared by an Earth
Friends volunteer team using the Danish CD “.Energy Experiments”.
The programme was possible with the financial support from JJ Charitable
Trust from the UK. The Technical College provided the class rooms as well
as the school workshops for preparing materials and models to be used
in the experiments. Earth Friends, in cooperation with the College’s
management team organised the experiments as an extra-curricular activity
for 3 months. Every experiment was done in one hour of work in 5 small
groups of 6 students, coached by an Earth Friends’ volunteer and
a physics teacher. During this time period 120 students had the possibility
to do all 10 experiments related to sustainable energy. At the end of
the period, all the students were able to prepare all the experiments
and to explain the results they obtained. |
