7th Framework Program for Research and Technical Development (FP7)

Brief on FP7
May 2012

The EU research and development program has substantial support for energy research, for sustainable energy as well as for nuclear energy. The support for sustainable energy is together with support for fossil fuel given within the non-nuclear energy programme. Currently funding is within the 7th Framework Programme 2007-2013 (FP7).

The funding is given to cooperation between different entities, often research institutions, but others can also participate.

The 2012 Work Programme is the biggest funding ever under the FP7: around EUR 7 billion. It will make special attention to SMEs with close to EUR1 billion. There is also a new EU Prize for Women Innovators.
Calls are including about 30 topics Renewable Energies (PV, concentrated solar power, wind energy, bioenergy, solar heating and cooling, geothermal energy), Carbon Capture and Storage, Clean Coal, Smart Electricity Networks as well as on Energy Efficiency. You can find an overview of the calls related to energy issues in 2010-2011 here.
See here the latest calls for proposals and information:

The great majority of the FP7 Energy topics are in line with the Implementation Plans of the Industrial Initiatives of the European Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan.
