Energy and Environment Center in Deister
The Energy and Environment Center was created in 1981, in a former vacation home for schools. The building was rebuilt to fit with renewable energy and energy savings objectives. The heating system was changed, solar panels were installed as well as collectors for rain water. Consequently, the building fuel consumption was reduced by 70% and the water consumption by 50%. The Center also has a 18,000m2 reed-bed sewage system, an organic vegetable garden and an orchard.
